Sherrie Riley

Bio
Ms. Riley was raised in Alturas, California. Because she wanted to be in a city that was open all hours, she moved to Reno in 1966. She got her BA degree in art from the University of Nevada Reno when she was thirty-six and raising six children. Her paintings during this period were limited to wall murals in her children’s bedrooms. Known for her creativity, she has always pursued art of some form. She considers herself to be a colorist and designer working mainly in acrylics. She worked briefly as an interior designer before a successful career for three decades as a meeting and event manager. As traveling is another passion, she made frequent trips to Europe and New York City. She is also a published author.

My frequent travels to Europe have provided me with the opportunity to visit some of the best museums in the world. When I have an emotional reaction to a painting, I know it is a successful work of art. I hope that what I put on the canvas will invoke strong emotion. Color and movement are the elements that most impress me when viewing a painting so that is where I concentrate my energy. My children have characterized my work as “using all the crayons in the box”.
